Parents FAQ – Camps in Qatar

The aim of the below document is to guide parents with preparatory steps leading up to the camp, allowing our team to deliver a safe and rich learning experience to the students.
  • This aims to be a comprehensive guide compiled based on questions we have received at Parent’s Assemblies and through our school partners. The document is continuously updated and tailored as needed.
  • We at Blue Pearl believe in a strong partnership between ourselves and the school, we work along clear guidelines, with full transparency of communication and in full coherence with the school’s policies to deliver a successful program complementing the curriculum.
  • The below guide has been put in place in line with standard school policies to reflect the guidelines and values children follow at school, we also follow international best practices and British safety standards in the outdoor education industry.
  • Some points may be further tailored to the school’s requirements in which case the school will communicate this to those signed up for Blue Pearl Camps.

Who is Blue Pearl and what can I expect from this program?

Blue Pearl is Qatar’s leading Outdoor Education company with over 28 partner schools and thousands of students attending our Across the Years outdoor education programs each year. We are setting industry standards in Qatar by following British safety standards and delivering programs with our fully certified staff with several years of experience working with children in the UK, Canada, US, Europe and UAE.

We have a strong partnership with schools to offer the young leaders of tomorrow empowerment, development of life skills, progression in core competencies and learning through adventure across the years.

Our programs are developed around clear learning outcomes to complement the school’s curriculum.

Adventurous challenges in our multi-day camping trips help to learn about one’s self and others in a safe outdoor environment, in a safe, caring, guided manner.

Blue Pearl is legally registered in Qatar and licensed by the Qatar Tourism Authority, insured by AIG Insurance. Blue Pearl is Qatari owned, British managed..

How to sign your child up for a Blue Pearl camp

Schools choose which BLUE PEARL camp to run with each year group and will communicate this with parents. All sign ups, payments and communication happens directly between the parents and the school.

How does Blue Pearl ensure my child's safety at camp?

> Detailed risk assessments are in place for each location and each activity.

> Emergency response plans are in place and agreed with by the school

> Strict British safety standards followed

> Staff hold police clearance reports, are First Aid and Water Safety trained.

> – No visitors are allowed at camp so we can focus on delivering a successful outdoor education program for the children and maximise their participation.

> All participants without exception follow the Blue Pearl Camp Code

> For students not sleeping at the camp, please check with the school for managing pick up and drop off. Students not sleeping overnight at camp are to be picked up and dropped off within an agreed time slot by parents.

> – During activities requiring safety gear all participants must wear the safety gear without exception (watersports – Personal Floatation Devices, biking – helmet, gloves, High Ropes – Helmet and Harness)

How do I prepare my child for the camp?

We have compiled a list of tips and kit below as preparation for your child’s camping experience.

Most importantly; with good preparation students will enjoy the camp and take away a rewarding learning experience.

Remember we are going on an outdoor adventure which involves spending nights under the stars and activities in the sand, the sea and on the grass. Pack appropriate functional gear for an outdoor adventure.

Pack light, use bags without wheels, students will be handling their own belongings on sand, on grass.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT CAMP

We do not advise the use of electronics during the camp and Blue Pearl does not take responsibility for any loss, damage or injury caused by such items.

The use of electronics is unsafe and not compatible with the challenges and activities students will be undertaking in the outdoor environment (sand, sea).

Mobile devices are not permitted at camp. In case of electronic items in bags, use will be limited to the night time.

VALUABLES

(such as jewelry, other electronics) are not allowed at the camp and Blue Pearl does not take responsibility for any loss or damage. Our aim is to provide the students an engaging outdoor experience, where maximum participation is key for maximum learning outcomes.

FAVOURITE SNACKS & PERSONAL ITEMS

Our camps are strictly NUT FREE, so if packing favourite snacks please consider the camp rules and safety of others. When packing favourite personal items consider the size of package that students will be handling themselves.

Snacks are welcome at camp, consider packing snacks that do not require refrigeration, special storage and are healthy. No special storage, or cooling facilities are provided at camp, snacks can be stored inside the tents.

Our camp packages are designed to provide a healthy, balanced, varied and sufficient meals and snacks at camp for students, we believe children can best learn and participate in activities with the right nutrition.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

All medical conditions (including allergies, earlier surgeries, current medication, etc.) and medical dietary requirements are to be communicated with the school on the Medical & Disclaimer form provided by the school to be filled out and signed by parents and returned at the indicated date.

This will allow Blue Pearl to prepare for addressing the medical requirements as needed, and to discuss with the school.

Students with ongoing medical supervision are to be accompanied by a nurse at camp. Students with assigned medication are to have the medication at hand for the days at camp.

Please note Blue Pearl does not administer medication, this will be the responsibility of the school staff/school nurse.

All Blue Pearl staff hold first aid and water rescue certification and practice duty of care during our programs.

All actions taken are in-line with the processes agreed with the school and in the presence of the school staff on location.

All information received about the students medical conditions is treated with strict confidentiality.

Who is my (parent's) contact before, during and after the camp?

The school’s trip leader teacher is the parent’s single point of contact for the entire duration of the outdoor education program including preparation phase, during the camp and post camp.
